The result is a color that looks a bit like champagne. Because of this URWERK calls the watch the Torpedo "Champagne Supernova." With such a lofty title, I do hope that the watch does not live up to its highly destructive name. Imagine the bubbles and pieces of cork being hurled millions of light years in each direction.
Based on the Sporting watch case, this large piece is 44.8mm wide in steel. I have to say, despite all the crap Ralph Lauren watches get given their price, they do (in cooperation with Richemont), make a pretty nice timepiece. Quality is good, and for the most part you are getting a Piaget/IWC/Jaeger-LeCoultre with another name on the dial. These are the three brands that make movements in the Ralph Lauren watches, and the cases and other components are from the same places as I understand it. Sure, Ralph Lauren Watches as a brand didn't exist a few years ago. I don't really care. In fact, what I care about with any watch is that it looks good and is made well. What they did in 1896 doesn't really matter to me as much, because I promise you, they don't do it the same way today - even if a brand was around back then.

The movement will still have a vertically mounted tourbillon, and look as fantastic as ever. In my opinion the movements that Eric Coudray create are among the most beautiful and visually fantastic in the world. More machine than art, he exhibits the craft of machine miniaturization wonderfully. I will wait to see the Cabestan Trapezium eagerly and hopefully offer a full report. Price according to Cabestan will be 240,000 Swiss Francs.
Hublot Bling Evolution: Diamonds On A Big Bang Watch
Where I'm going with all of this is that the 2011 edition of the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (sometimes known as the "Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix") awards were recently completed. This event is a kind of industry gathering at which the Swiss watch industry fetes its own. It's not quite clear to me how much of the event is marketing self-promotion by the industry, and how much is more "pure." Regardless, for us watch fans, it's another opportunity to look at the products and manufactures we love.
What impresses me most about the Helios is that in addition to it being an innovative way of telling the time, the design itself has a very good looking presence to it. This is one of the most interesting looking unorthodox timepieces when just seeing it on the wrist. This is thanks to the deep, highly detailed dial that has a beautiful radial symmetry to it. People like to go off on how symmetry isn't as important as "balance." There is some truth to that, but a watch like this shows just how powerful good symmetry is.

A little difference of opinion in ordering the shows has this being episode 85 on aBlogtoRead.com and episode 84 on the HourTime website. I will trying to straighten it out moving forward - and apologize for any confusion. On this episode we discus the right way to sell watches, our continuing appreciation of Grand Seiko,MB&F Legacy Machine Number 1, and more.
The watch is attached to a rubber strap with fold-over deployment clasp done in titanium. Overall, a rather nice piece if you let it grow on you. The Rado D-Star Basel Special 2011 will be part of a limited edition, but I am not sure of how many pieces. Available in October 2011, price will be ,495.
