Right before I wrote this article I was fortunate enough to actually meet with Franc Vila himself. He showed me a selection of watches from his collection, including the Cobra models that I wrote about for AskMen.com (see link below). It was interesting that I met with the man who made a watch I was about to write about. I was literally assigned to write about the watch a few hours before I met him, so it was a total coincidence really. He is a charismatic fellow who is more a watch enthusiast turned watch company owner as opposed to being a introverted watch maker like the hardcore fellows. He has a deep connection with the designs and a close relationship with his customers. What amazed me about the watch is just how solid they felt. If you've ever picked up a watch that felt like lots of pieces put together, you'll now what I mean. The Franc Vila watches feel like one solid piece. Check out my discussion of his mainstream Cobra Chronograph line of watches.Read more ›
The watch is pretty comfortable to wear, I have no complaints. The watch looks neat, and is fun to wear. I think to myself how appropriate it would be for a suit and tie. You could pull that off really well, but they the luxury part of my mind starts to think that the design could actually quite easily lend itself to a more luxury build. Imagine a shiny alligator strap and gold case would look very cool. If the Pi Watch is a big hit, I can see it happening.
For the above watch you have the Angular Momentum Urushi Hototogisu, which is the Cuckoo bird. It is done in mix of black and red Urushi. The bird is an omen of spring and is rarely actually seen as it flies so swiftly.

Below the bubbles is a code. You go online or use a mobile website on your mobile phone and enter the code at Prooftag's website. After you enter the code the site shows you an image of the bubble formation that is associated with the code. You can then authenticate it in two ways. See if the image on the screen matches that on the card you are holding using your own eyes. If it is hard to tell and the images look close, you can used the special instrument that Prooftag offers that will line up the position and size of the bubbles compared to that which is in their system. Overall it is a really great system, and Prooftag has a good website that covers all the little details.

Seiko wanted to make 100 of these watches, but I don't think they got around to it. According to Antiquorum Seiko only made 6 of these watches. Which is a damn shame, cause I want one so badly. One of these timepieces is going to be auctioned off by Antiquorum in September. Estimates are that the watch will go for between ,000 - ,000. The watch will never be the classic watch that the Omega Moon Watch is, but it is certainly something important. Glad I don't live in New York, or I would be at that auction next month.
Both courts sided with Jaquet Droz and not FP Journe. Why? Because Jaquet Droz presented evidence of older pocket watch designs that it copied, and that those designs not only predated the FP Journe designs, but that they were not original to FP Journe. Why did FP Journe end up paying Jaquet Droz even though they brought the suit? I believe that because the law in Europe sometimes has the losing party pay for the legal costs of the winning party. The specific watch that FP Journe released that had the infringing design was the Octa (see above is the Octa Perpetual watch in titanium). I am not 100% sure this specific watch was part of the suit (as I seems to have been released recently), but it does display how FP Journe used the design that they alleged was being copied.
It was years ago now - more than 10- when I first saw what was to become this Bugatti Galibier 16C Concept car. It was the Bugatti EB 218, a concept that shared the same fastback shape and uber luxury stance as this close to production Bugatti Galibier 16C automotive. Perhaps the EB 218 was a bit more attractive, but certainly not as advanced. Car lovers have known for a while now that Bugatti was to follow up its money losing 16/4 Veyron over a million dollar car, with other vehicles. Little is known about the details of this Bugatti Galibier but it will not be the significantly lower priced sports car we are looking forward to. It is an all new sedan, also with a 16 cylinder 8 liter engine and a two-stage supercharger. What is interesting about the engine is that it is made to be a Flex Fuel motor. Meaning it can accept standard gasoline as well as ethanol. No, it is not being marketed by GM. The car also features a substantial amount of carbon fiber as well as the large polished aluminum sides. Yes, that is right, the car features aluminum siding.Read more ›
