Once again, I will have to wait until early 2015 to test the specific fitness applications of the Apple Watch, but I think it has a lot of potential. Again, even if Apple didn't invent a lot of the activity tracking functionality offered in the Apple Watch, it has streamlined many components and offered them in a package a lot more people will end up using compared to most currently available fitness tracking devices.
What is also very important to point out is that according to Omega, the chronograph mechanism can be used underwater. It is not super common that diving watches with chronographs allow for the chronograph complication to be used under water. In this case, the chronograph pushers are fully operational underwater which adds to the tool-watch appeal of this Omega Seamaster 300M.

Guillaume Néry stunned the world with the release of his 2010 short film Free Fall. In it, the world-champion French free diver and Ball Watches brand ambassador explores the depths of the sea within "Dean's Blue Hole" - the deepest such ocean cavity in the world. The resulting cinematic experience became a spectacular viral video: if you haven't seen it yet, it will blow your mind. (We've included it at the bottom of the post, just in case you're not one of the near 21,000,000 people who've seen it on YouTube.) And now Néry is back with a new film, Ocean Gravity (above), following in the wake of some stunning watch collaborations.
The Swatch Sistem51 movement is produced from just 51 parts and is said to be fully automated in its assembly - a feat that ended up proving to be very complicated for Swatch. Using metal and plastic components, the Sistem51 movement isn't designed to be taken apart and put back together like most mechanical movements out there. The Sistem51 operates at 3Hz and has a rather long power reserve of about 90 hours.

The case uses some special screws and has articulating lugs, which help the sheer mass of the case fit securely on a range of wrist sizes. It is quite rare for a watch design to be so focused on being large, but also wearable. With a properly-sized strap, the Porsche Design P'6780 Diver wears extremely comfortably. Changes to the case from the Eterna to the Porsche Design are evident, but minor. Most of the changes to the watch from the prior Eterna version are on the dial - though it is not just a matter of a re-badged watch - the Porsche Design piece is very much a Porsche Design watch that simply borrows from an incredible design that didn't work for Eterna.
Interestingly enough, both the Blancpain Villeret Pulsometer Flyback Chronograph and Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe models have the same case size of 43.6mm wide. That works just fine for a sport watch, but not everyone likes larger dress watches, so that should be noted about the Villeret model. If you do like a bold, yet clean, classic look, then the Blancpain Villeret Pulsometer Flyback Chronograph is certainly worth looking at. While not a limited edition, the debut reference 6680F-3631-55B version of the Blancpain Villeret Pulsometer Flyback Chronograph will be available exclusively in 18k red gold.
Obviously, for a watch with this level of craftsmanship, technology, and outright ornamentation, the price is going to be a supremely limiting factor. Watches like the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Tradition Grande Complication are the treasures that JLC creates for the most faithful, crazed and well-heeled collectors. If you fit that profile and have the spare finances, then what you get in return is nothing short of Jaeger-LeCoultre's definition of romantic haute-horololgy. We will update with price information as it becomes available from Jaeger-LeCoultre. jaeger-lecoultre.com

Watches in Breguet's Classique collection are masterful executions of finely conceived machine guilloche engraved dials. Breguet wants you to know that these aren't automated machines, but rather hand-operated rose engines that are more like tools which only produce beautiful results when used by skilled craftsman. As is the case on many models, the dial features various aesthetic styles that work together marvelously. More guilloche engraving can be found on the surface of the automatic rotor, which is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback on the rear of the watch.
Whatever expectations the case, crown, and bezel may setup, the dial can support. The Tudor Heritage Black Bay Blue has a really beautiful flat-black dial with bright white metal applied markers and hands and a matching white minute track. Wonderfully monochromatic, the BBB's dial is balanced, supremely legible and capable of catching the light in a very pleasing way. If I'm being very picky, I could do without the "rotor self winding" text, but I have to applaud Tudor for something else they omitted: the date display. The 2824 ticking within offers a date display but the Tudor Heritage Black Bay Blue's dial is left unspoiled by a date. If done perfectly, I don't mind a date display, but my preference for a sport watch is always no date.
Other examples of aventurine stone used in men's watches are rare, but notable. We first covered Blu watches back in 2009 which made rich use of blue aventurine. More recently, the hit Midnight Planetarium watch by Van Cleef & Arpels also used aventurine as a starry watch face. As you can see, the quartz mineral works really well for that, and while it isn't meant to look like space on the Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Tourbillon Aventurine, it does make for an excellent frame for the time and tourbillon. More so, there is a piece of aventurine placed on the rotor, visible through the sapphire crystal caseback of the watch over the automatic movement.
HYT, the "Hydromechanical Horologists" offer a new watch model for 2015 with the HYT Skull – coming in two versions. If you are a bit confused by how to read the brand's newest watch, then worry not, so was I. What you need to know is that the dial of the HYT Skull indicates the hours, seconds, and has a power reserve indicator. That's right, the HYT Skull has no need for minutes. What, are you in a rush or something? You've got a futuristic skull on your wrist!
Having said that, Garmin is no novice to wearable devices. The company's Forerunner GPS watches have been around since before the "smartwatch" term was invented, and in many ways, they were producing connected sport watches competing with other companies who never seemed to understand that the data a watch collected (or displayed) should be shared with other devices, etc... For 2015, Garmin has improved its range, while adding more options for people who don't want to be seen wearing a bulky GPS watch. Also, they don't all have GPS features, of course.
Although not closely linked to this particular model, we will mention here that along with this new limited edition, Seiko has also announced six new, non-limited versions of the Astron Solar GPS Chronograph, as seen on the picture above. Two feature titanium cases with crocodile leather straps, three are in stainless steel with bracelets that feature ceramic inserts, and the last addition is in full stainless steel. This clearly indicates Seiko's commitment to the Astron technology, as they try to create as many different versions as possible to meet diverse tastes and expectations around the world.
If your workplace has a lax dress code, you perhaps just head to work in a t-shirt and jeans. As a result, you also may find yourself gravitating towards tool watches. There’s nothing wrong with that. However, once in a while, you might find yourself in a situation where you need to put on your suit and shirt, heck, or maybe even a tuxedo. For instances like these, a tool watch won’t cut it. Sure, some tool watches can be passed off as dress pieces, but what you really want for times like these is a classic dress watch - preferably in gold, definitely thin, and absolutely on a classy leather strap. For situations like these, you might want to check out Orient, who make some seriously affordable and well-made dress watches.
